Kelvedon St Mary's Primary School

Welcome to Kelvedon St Mary's Online

Kelvedon is a thriving rural village situated midway between Colchester and Chelmsford on the A12, served by a mainline railway station with regular services to London Liverpool Street.
There has been a church school in Kelvedon since 1837. The present school, completed in three phases was opened in 1977 on its present site. St Mary's is a semi open-plan design with fourteen teaching bases, including an early years unit.
The school is well equipped, with a well-resourced library, and a large hall, which is used for Collective Worship, P.E. and dining. We have a purpose built Computer Suite.
There is a large, shared junior area containing computers, the library and art areas including a kiln. Our on-site kitchen provides excellent meals for our children. An example of our weekly menu can be found on the 'Scrumptious Lunches' page.

St Mary's is fortunate to have a covered, heated swimming pool, in which all children receive weekly swimming lessons during the summer term.

We have extensive grounds with seperate KS1 and KS2 asphalt and grassed areas. The KS2 playground contains a quiet area with tables underneath a lanscaped wooden gazebo. Both playground have many interesting floor markings to help with more structured games. The KS1 playground has a fenced adventure playground,a static train and small play equipment is provided for use in zoned areas. There are also two covered playhouses which provide shelter from the sun and somewhere peaceful to sit.

A more recent addition to both playgrounds are the 'friendship benches', where children can sit if they have no-one to play with. Before long someone will notice and invite them to join a game.

In 2006 we were chosen as one of the schools to take part in the new Ofsted one day inspection. We were judged to be an 'Outstanding School'

The report can be downloaded on the documents page.

The school received an award celebrating the progress of achievement at St Mary's. We were delighted by the Government's recognition of all the hard work everyone at the school has put in.
