Anti-Bullying

On the back of a very successful national anti-bullying week and the positive feedback we received from the recent parental questionnaire, we thought it an appropriate time to reinforce the school’s commitment to anti-bullying measures.

Whilst we take great pride in our record on bullying and in the measures we have put in place to prevent it, we recognise that, in common with all schools, there is no room for complacency.  At St Mary’s we take any and all instances of bullying extremely seriously.  There are a number of initiatives in place including regular teacher sessions with role playing, friendship benches and worry boxes and we are always looking at ways of improving things.

Where problems do occur, we need the support of all the parents involved to help ensure that issues can be resolved as quickly and as effectively as possible.

If you do have any concerns please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance.  However, Mr Taylor is always available if required.

World Book Day

Thursday March 6th is World Book Day. Children will bring home a voucher which either entitles them to a free specially printed book or £1 off a book of their choice. We will be celebrating our own Book Day in June, with special activities including a visiting poet, Brian Moses.

School Website

After a recent suggestion we have added another new page to the School Website.   This can be accessed by clicking on the 'More Pages' button and following the link to the 'School Uniform' page.  Once there you can view the personalised items available to order and download a printable order form to hand in to the School Office.

Computer Vouchers

Once again Tesco are running the Computers for Schools scheme in their stores nationwide.  This year they will be giving one voucher for every £10 you spend with them between Monday, 3 March  and Sunday, 11 May 2008.  In past years the vouchers you collected have provided much needed resources for the school. We have used them to purchase amongst other things a video camera, mini-digital cameras, computers, science equipment, computer software and resources for children with special needs.

A collection box will be placed in the hall on Monday for you to deposit the vouchers and we really hope that you will be able to support us again this year.  If you would like a poster to display in your workplace so that your colleagues can support us too, please give your name (and your child’s class) to Mrs Pulham in the school office and we will try our best to get one to you.  Don’t forget that ink cartridges and mobile phones can be recycled for vouchers and a box for those items can be found just inside the front entrance.  Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Football Friendly Result

Kelvedon St. Mary’s 5 V Earl’s Colne 2

The team started slowly, which wasn’t surprising, as it was the first friendly of the season.  Earl’s Colne took the lead through a Kelvedon mistake, but within minutes we were level when the ball was adjudged to cross the line; an own goal. Further strikes from both team made it 2-2 score line. However, Kelvedon upped their game for the second half and ran out comfortable winners with a good solid performance.

Goals scorers: Sam Whitehead 1, Daniel Whittle 1, Alec Scott 1, Jack Tyrer 1 and an own goal

Team:

Michael Cook, Joe Goodchild, Duncan Bradley, Andrew Swinnerton, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Alec Scott, Michael Challis and Jack Tyrer.

 MOM: George Chappell:

for his commanding performance in the middle of the park.

Netball Tournament

Kelvedon St. Mary’s Netball Team took part in their first ever tournament on Tuesday at Honywood and I was so proud of them!  They played with such skill, team work and team spirit, not conceding any goals and winning the whole tournament!  The scores were 11-0, 6-0, 7-0 and 7-0.  Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who helped with lifts and also to those who supported the team so enthusiastically at Honywood.

The Team members were: Claire Borgartz, Tilly Sinfield, Rebecca Main, Thoma Barthelay, Rebecca Burgin, Louise Hayman, Amber Shead, Andrew Russell and
