Questionnaires

We have reviewed all the many responses to the questionnaire that was sent out in January.  Thank you for the time that you all spent on this.  It helps us as governors to understand some of your concerns and it has certainly helped Mr Taylor as Acting Headteacher to address some of the issues raised.

Reporting and support:  The main issue seems to be the way in which the progress that your child is making is communicated to you.  We need to find the right balance of sufficient reporting while at the same time allowing your child to develop within a secure environment.

It is very encouraging that many people wanted to know how their child was relating to an average pupil and how they behaved in school.  Some people were worried that not every child had the opportunity to take on visible roles in the school – we always try to be fair and take these comments on board.

After School Activities:  We have taken note of the various activities you would like to see offered.

We will keep you posted on changes that we make as a result of the questionnaire, many thanks.

Governors and Mr Taylor

  11+ Congratulations

We have had the news of those children that successfully passed the 11+.  Well done to the following pupils; George Chappell, Ellen Docherty, Robert Martin, Calum Mills and Isabel Noble who passed the 11+ Examinations.  You have made everyone associated with the school very proud.

                                                      Honywood Year 5/6 Science Quiz

On Monday afternoon a group of twelve year 5 and 6 pupils went to Honywood School in Coggeshall to take part in a Science quiz.  Lots of other local primary schools were also competing.  Teams consisted of two members from Year 7 at Honywood and two members from one of the Primary schools.  It proved to be a very successful afternoon for St. Mary’s, as not only did one of our teams win the quiz, we also won the Primary Schools event by scoring the most points overall!  A huge WELL DONE to all those children who took part and a big thank you to all those parents who helped with transport.  The pupils involved were: Isabel Noble, Robert Martin and Andrew Swinnerton (6L),. Claire Borgatz, Calum Mills and Ellen Docherty (6K), James Mitchell, Michael Tye and Sam Whitehead (5A) and Orla Convery, Esme Sensibar and Daniel Ruben (5S).

  Book Fair News

A big thank you to everyone who was involved with our book fair.  This time we raised £751 in commission to spend on books for school.  A particular thank you to all the mums who gave up their time to help – we could not have done it without you!

                                                          Cleaner Required

We require a cleaner to work in our school for 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday, starting as soon as possible.  The main responsibility will be to maintain the children’s cloakroom areas.  If you are interested please contact the office.  Thank you

                                                         KS2 Playground Morning Bell

As from next week, first thing in the morning, the bell will be rung twice by the teacher on duty in the KS2 Playground.  At the sound of the first bell Years 3 and 4 should enter the school and on the second bell Years 5 and 6.  We hope that this will avoid congestion within the school corridors.  Please could parents leave entrances and exits clear for our children.

  School Dinner Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny will be busy hiding Easter egg pictures on some lucky school dinner trays each day and it’s up to you to find them!

Once you have eaten all of your School dinner, and cleared your cutlery and cup away, you can turn your tray over to see if your have found a picture of an Easter Egg on it.  If you have, bring it to the counter and you can claim your Chocolate Easter Egg to take home and eat before Easter Sunday!

Football Friendly result

Kelvedon St. Mary’s 3 V Feering 0

Kelvedon and Feering enjoyed a hard fought match with both teams trying hard and enjoying themselves. Kelvedon took the lead with a good finish from Billy Catchpole. Kelvedon continued to create chances and ran out deserved winners with two further goals.

Goals scorers: Billy Catchpole 2 and Daniel Whittle 1.

Team: Michael Cook, Joe Goodchild, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Michael Challis, Ben Le-Roy, Lewis Ward and Alec Scott.

MOM: Billy Catchpole – for his overall effort throughout the match and his sharp finishing.

  Colchester United Football Tournament

The St. Mary’s team went on a trip to Colchester United training astro-turf and competed in the local tournament.  It was a tough start to the tournament and Kelvedon lost the first match 2-0. However, with a better performance in the next match they managed a 0-0 draw but were the best team and unlucky not to score as Daniel Whittle hit the bar.  Our tournament was already over before the last game but the team played their best game to win 4-0. Overall, a very slow start but a great finish to the tournament!

Team: Martin Lilley, Joe Goodchild, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Michael Challis and Jack Tyrer.

Player of the Tournament: Sam Whitehead – for his work rate and quality passing throughout the 3 matches.

Yours sincerely

Mr S Taylor
