PTFA Pumpkin competition

A huge thanks you to everyone who entered the pumpkin growing competition.  It looked like you all had great fun growing and then decorating them.  We had loads of superb pumpkins with a range of fantastic faces either painted or drawn for judging on Thursday. Mr Taylor and I had a very difficult task in trying to pick some winners!  Everyone who brought in a pumpkin received a certificate recognising their brilliant 'green fingered' achievement and decorating ability!  Special congratulations go to the following winners:
Biggest pumpkin: Joshua Bowden
Best decorated pumpkin (infants): Mia Carter-Joy
Best decorated pumpkin (juniors): Lucy Booth
Special category of best pumpkin hair-do: Grace Parker

Many thanks
Rupert Lown

Operation Christmas Child – Shoe Box Appeal

It may be small but your simple gifts, in a brightly wrapped shoe box, can bring hope and a smile to some of the world’s poorest children.  Your shoe box could be the first Christmas present they have ever received in their lives!  Each box needs to be filled with a selection of small new items for the following age range; girl or boy aged 2-4, 5-9 and 10-14.  If you don’t want to fill a shoe box but you can donate items or give a donation towards a box you can help that way.  There are so many ways that you can help.  If you have any queries then please contact me on 07772 921798.  We will also be looking for volunteers to help check the boxes before they are sent off, so if you can spare some time then please contact me.

Thank you in advance for all your help and support and I look forward to reporting back to you with the final number of boxes that St. Mary’s have collected.  The closing date for all boxes is Thursday November 12th.
Tracey Alcock.

Thurstable Football Tournament

For the first time ever two Kelvedon teams built up of Years 4, 5 and 6 children participated in the ‘Colchester-Blackwater Partnership Tournament’ at Thurstable Sports College (Kelvedon A and B).

Kelvedon ‘A’ quickly progressed to the semi-final by winning all their group games; playing some extremely technical football and looking dominant throughout.
Kelvedon ‘B’ also played extremely well winning 3 matches and drawing 2 resulting in them progressing to the semi-finals.
Purely through coincidence the semi-final saw Kelvedon ‘A’ come up against Kelvedon ‘B’.  Both teams hadn’t conceded throughout the tournament and after a closely fought match it ended unsurprisingly 0-0.  A penalty shootout decided the tie with Kelvedon ‘A’ progressing through to the final 3-2.  However, the teams came together at the end to wish each other luck in the next matches; the final and 3rd/4th playoff.
Kelvedon ‘B’ won their match very convincingly 3-0 to earn ‘Third place’ in the tournament and being the only team not to concede in open play during the tournament.
Kelvedon ‘A’ met a talented St. Luke’s ‘A’ and managed to win the game 2-1 with both goals coming from Michael Whittle.

Group A Group B
Kelvedon ‘A’ 2 v Mildene 0 Kelvedon ‘B’ 4 v Mildene ‘B’ 0
Kelvedon ‘A’ 1 v Feering 0 Baynards 0 v Kelvedon ‘B’ 0

Kelvedon ‘A’ 4 v Birch 0 St. Lukes ‘A’ 0 v Kelvedon ‘B’ 0
 Tolleshunt D’arcy 0 v Kelvedon ‘B’ 1
Semi-Final – Kelvedon A 0 v Kelvedon B 0 (‘Kelvedon A’ won 3-2 on penalties)
Final – St. Lukes ‘A’ 1 V Kelvedon St. Mary’s 2 3rd/4th Playoff – Kelvedon ‘B’ 4 v Birch 0

Kelvedon A Team: James Odell, Tom Gee, Sam Docherty, Michael Whittle (Captain), Oliver Johnson, Harry Doubleday, and Joe Stevens.
Kelvedon B Team: Cameron Wright, Henry Onno, Henry Curtis, Jordan Steele (Captain), George Pennell, Joshua Downes and Ryan Carter.

MOT Kelvedon A: I’m afraid it is impossible to pick one player from the team! Well done everyone.
MOT Kelvedon B: Jordan Steele for controlling the game throughout the tournament.

Thank you to Mr Dixon and all the parents who helped with transport and supported both teams.
Mr Taylor

Parents and carers set to benefit

New rules introduced by the Government’s Department for Work and Pensions could help boost the incomes of many low paid families in the Braintree District.
From 2nd November 2009 Child Benefit payments will no longer be taken into account when calculating a person’s entitlement to Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.
So if you are a parent / carer on a low income, and not currently in receipt of help with your Rent or Council Tax, give the Benefit’s Team a call, to find out if you would be eligible after these changes take place.

For further information or to seek advice on claiming Housing or Council Tax Benefit contact the Benefits Team, Braintree District Council
on Tel: 01376 557888
(The Benefits team will be automatically recalculating the entitlement of existing benefit recipients and, during November, will notify them by post of any payment increases)
