Fireworks Display

Don’t forget our fireworks display here tomorrow night.  Gates open at 6.00pm with the display starting at 7.00pm.  If you haven’t bought your programmes yet, you will be able to do so at Bhavani’s, Olivers, or AT Butchers until tomorrow afternoon (subject to availability) or you can pay on the gate.

As last year, the viewing area for the fireworks will be in the Junior playground – although the entrance gate will be the Docwra Road one into the Infant playground.  There will be a barbeque, and refreshments and novelties will be on sale, as well as bouncy castles.  You can also win some great prizes in our raffle.

Just a quick word on safety – the school and the PTFA are unable to accept any liability for injuries or damage to personal effects.  So to avoid endangering others, can we please ask that no smoking takes place and that no fireworks (including sparklers) are let off in the school grounds.

This event is our main fund raiser for the school and the team do a great job of putting on an excellent fireworks display, so do come along and support your children's school.

Finally, if you’re looking to get some fresh air on Sunday at 2.00pm you are welcome to come along to help clear the field ready for Monday.  Just turn up and bring a carrier bag with you to put the firework debris in.  And bring the children - it’s a great way of getting them involved (and there will be some sweet rewards too!).  We’ve had a great turnout the past couple of years and managed to finish the job in just over an hour.

Year 3/4 Thurstable Football Tournament

Kelvedon sent two teams built up of Years 3 and 4 children to participate in the ‘Colchester-Blackwater Partnership Festival and Tournament at Thurstable Sports College (Kelvedon ‘A’ and ‘B’).

Kelvedon ‘A’ progressed to the semi-final by winning all their group games; dominating teams and not conceding any goals.

Kelvedon ‘B’ had a tougher group and although they improved with each match, they couldn’t put a win together at this stage.  However, they soon rose to the challenge in the knockout stages and won their first match on penalties after 0-0 draw to earn a chance to compete in the 5th/6th Play-off.  Once again the game went to penalties but this time Kelvedon were unlucky and lost, earning them 6th overall.

Kelvedon ‘A’ played their next match, the semi-final against Baynards winning the match 2-0 with goals coming from Oliver Johnson and Joshua Downes.  In the final against St. Luke’s ‘A’, Kelvedon quickly dominated the game winning 3-0 with goals coming from Oliver Johnson (2) and Joshua Downes.

Kelvedon B Team: Andrew Barham, Josh Turnbull, Charlie Wilde (Captain), Guy Green, James Cooksey, Billy Meaney, Jack Whitehead and Ben Whitehead.

 Christmas Tree Festival

St Mary’s Parish Church’s fund raising committee are organising a Christmas Tree festival on the weekend of 5th and 6th December in aid of the fabric of the church and various charities.  Local businesses, organisations, clubs etc are decorating Christmas trees to be displayed in the church that weekend.  The church would be delighted if any families would like to decorate their own tree and display it in the church.  The tree should be no larger than 6 feet high and should be in place in the church by 4.00 p.m. on Friday 4th December.   A donation for displaying your tree would be very welcome to help boost the funds.  Please contact Fr David Frdavidreynish@tiscali.co.uk  telephone 571172, if you would like to take part, by 20th November.   If you aren’t able to decorate a tree, do put the dates in your diary, the Christmas Tree Festival will be a wonderful festive start to the Christmas season.

Disability / Equality

We are updating our Disability Equality Scheme Action Plan for this current school year.

We would like to consult with you, on how we could make our school even more disability friendly.

If you feel there are any areas that we could improve please feel free to complete the questionnaire.

To clarify what we mean by ‘disabled’, the following is a quote from the Disability Discrimination Act.
‘A person has a disability if he has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term (12 months or more) adverse effect on his ability to carry out normal day-to-day  activities.’
‘For the purpose of definition ignore the effects of medical or other treatments or aids and appliances’.

To fall within the Act, a person must be substantially affected by their disability in one of the following ways.

• Mobility
• Physical co-ordination
• Manual dexterity
• Continence
• Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move everyday objects
• Speech, hearing, eyesight
• Memory or ability to learn, concentrate or understand
• Perception of risk or physical danger

Examples may be challenging behaviour, diabetes, facial disfigurement, depression etc.

We would like you to help us to identify the barriers to disabled people in our environment so that we include them in our development.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
