Dear Parents/Guardians

Children In Need 2007 - Do Something Different

Today we had a really well-supported event for everyone here at St. Mary's. There were lots of children and staff dressed up in various outfits to raise money for those who truly need it. We had a range of activities for 'Children In Need - Do Something Different' including;
* An assembly with a difference
* All children dressed in outfits related to their themes across the school
* KS1 Coffee Morning for parents of Year 1 and Year 2 children
* Cakes made by children and their parents being sold at break times
* Competitions throughout the day for all our children
* Listening to Pudsey Radio
* Lots of music in line with our themes.
Today was a really fun occasion for all and the school would like to say a big thank you to
Miss Clouting for organising this event. We will let you know in next week's newsletter how much money was raised.

After School Extra-Curricular Clubs

Could all parents who are picking up their children from Wednesday's Colchester United Club please come to the side door of the hall to pick them up. The back gate will not be open on Wednesdays for access to the school after 3.40pm. This is due to all teachers being in a staff meeting.

After any extra-curricular activity/club could all parents and children please not go wandering around the school as this can cause security and safety issues for school. Children have been told about this in today's assembly.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Cold Weather
Now that the weather has changed we would like to ask parents to ensure that they make sure all children come to school with appropriate cold-weather clothing e.g. coat, fleece, hat, gloves etc.

Additionally, could all children bring a tracksuit top and bottoms (or equivalent) into school for their PE lessons as we always try to take children outside where they can use all the space we have.

Thank you.

Head Lice

Head lice still seems to be an ongoing problem in school. We recently sent a leaflet home giving advice to you on awareness and treatment. Please could you endeavour to follow the instructions given and if you have lost your copy the office can supply you with another one. If you do find that your child does have head lice please treat accordingly. They should not return to school until their hair has been treated. Thank you.

Mid-Day Assistants Required

We currently have vacancies for Mid-Day Assistants in school. If you are interested in joining our team please call at the office for further information. The hours of work are 12 noon - 1.15pm Monday to Friday.

Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Book Fair. It was a great success and there were lots of happy customers. We have earned £988 to spend on books for school. A special thank you to the parents who helped to run each session - we could not have done it without you.

No Choir Monday

Unfortunately, Miss Sewell is on a course after school on Monday 19th November, so there will be no choir practice next week. Choir will resume again the following Monday, 26th November.
Miss Sewell sends her apologies.

Football Tournament Result

Kelvedon St Mary's Football Team played there first competitive football of the season by representing the school in tournament at Thurstable Secondary School. We started off superbly with a 4-0 victory in our first game. The next games proved to be more difficult with a 0-0 draw and 0-1 defeat. However, surprisingly we managed to qualify for the semi-finals on goal difference. The semi-final was probably the best performance of the team as we won 1-0 but played some great team football. During the final we started really brightly, but ran out of steam in the last few minutes to be beaten 2-0. As this was our first tournament of the season to become runners-up in a difficult tournament like this is a credit to the children.

Goals scorers: Jack Tyrer 1, Billy Catchpole 1, Sam Whitehead 1, Michael Tye 1 and Daniel Whittle 1.

Squad: Martin Lilley, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Joe Goodchild, Michael Challis, George Chappell, Billy Catchpole, Sam Whitehead, Jack Tyrer and Michael Tye.

Man of the tournament: Jack Tyrer - for the strength and skill he showed throughout the tournament.

Yours sincerely
