GOVERNING BODY NEWS

After a closely fought election, Rachel Banning and Barry Martin were elected as parent governors at the recent Governing Body elections.

At a time when some schools are struggling to fill their Governing Bodies, it is encouraging that so many people were willing to put themselves forward.  We hope that the unsuccessful candidates will stand again and that others will be inspired to get involved.  The Governing Body plays a vital role in making sure that our school continues to build on its ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted.  We are very fortunate in having governors with a wide range of skills who are actively engaged in matters as diverse as the school’s budgetary process, the Eco Team and disability access.

  CHRISTINGLE SERVICE

You are invited to a Christingle Service on Sunday 3rd February at 10.30a.m. in St Mary's Parish Church .  This service is especially for families and children. Each child will be given a Christingle; a symbol of Christ's love and light.  The collection in the service will be given to the Children's Society, a national charity helping "forgotten" children who are unable to find support and care elsewhere.

  PANCAKE DAY

Every year we hold a Pancake race for all the children, this year it will be on Tuesday 5th February.  The PTFA kindly provide a prize for the winning child in each year group and then a prize for the overall winner.  As this is a fundraising event we do ask for a voluntary contribution of 50p and all proceeds will go to the schools nominated charity Farleigh Hospice.  We would like to invite parents to come and cheer their children along.  The races will take place in the hall and the final will be on the Junior Playground to enable other classes to support their friends.   Please see the timetable below:

  YEAR 3 ROAD SAFETY WALKS

Thank you very much to all the parents who came on the Year 3 road safety trips this week. The children learnt a lot and were a credit to the school as usual.

The road safety officer has asked us to remind parents that children under 135cm and younger than twelve MUST use a booster seat in the car. This is a legal requirement and can help to save lives.

  RECYCLING BANK

We have had enquiries with regard to how the clothing is used.  We can confirm that it is all sorted and used appropriately according to its condition.

  YEAR 3/4 PRODUCTION

The Year 3 and 4 production of ‘The Peace Child’ is now getting underway and we are starting to think about the props we need. If anyone has a large inflatable crocodile or a long piece of blue material which could be used as a river, the Year 3 and 4 teachers would be very grateful!  A note about the costume your child will need will be sent home soon.  Thank you for your help.
