PE - Activities for All
Here at St. Mary's we aim to provide many opportunities for PE and Sport after school for the majority of pupils. We try to ensure that all children know what activities are available each term (there is a copy of the Spring Timetable on the Extra-Curricular Activities page).
Having FUN is a very important factor in all our clubs!
Any queries about PE and School Sport please speak to Mr Taylor.

Football Tournament Result
Kelvedon St Mary's Football Team played their first competitive football of the season by representing the school in tournament at Thurstable Secondary School. We started off superbly with a 4-0 victory in our first game. The next games proved to be more difficult with a 0-0 draw and 0-1 defeat. However, surprisingly we managed to qualify for the semi-finals on goal difference. The semi-final was probably the best performance of the team as we won 1-0 but played some great team football. During the final we started really brightly, but ran out of steam in the last few minutes to be beaten 2-0. As this was our first tournament of the season to become runners-up in a difficult tournament like this is a credit to the children.
Goals scorers: Jack Tyrer 1, Billy Catchpole 1, Sam Whitehead 1, Michael Tye 1 and Daniel Whittle 1.
Squad: Martin Lilley, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Joe Goodchild, Michael Challis, George Chappell, Billy Catchpole, Sam Whitehead, Jack Tyrer and Michael Tye.
Man of the tournament: Jack Tyrer - for the strength and skill he showed throughout the tournament.
Kelvedon St. Mary’s 0 v
Kelvedon started of the game well and dominated the whole of the first half with a variety of good passing which created many goal scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t take any of the chances and the score remained level at half time. The match became a bit scrappy in the second half before a penalty was given to the away team. St. Peter’s scored from the spot and although Kelvedon bravely battled on they could not equalise. Overall it was a good performance with a disappointing result.
Team: Martin Lilley, Joe Goodchild, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Michael Challis, Michael Tye, Jack Kearton and Jack Tyrer.
MOM: Daniel Whittle – for his battling performance throughout the game.
Football Result
Kelvedon St. Mary’s 2 v Templers 1
Kelvedon passed the ball extremely well during the first half and created numerous opportunities with Jack Tyrer finishing neatly after a pass from George Chappell. Kelvedon were 1-0 up at half time. In the second half Jack Kearton neatly finished a good move with the outside of his foot and we were 2-0 up. However, Templers pulled a goal back towards the end of the match, but Kelvedon just about held strong. A good result for the first league game of the season.
Goals scorers: Jack Tyrer 1 and Jack Kearton 1
Team: Martin Lilley, Joe Goodchild, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Michael Challis, Michael Tye, Jack Kearton, Duncan Bradley and Jack Tyrer.
MOM: Sam Whitehead – for his midfield domination during the game and the strength he showed at all times.

Howbridge 0
Kelvedon St. Mary’s 3
Kelvedon travelled to last year’s champions (Howbridge Primary) expecting a tough match. The boys were totally focused from the start and within a minute were 1 – 0 up through a rocket shot be Daniel Whittle. Kelvedon continued battling despite losing Michael Challis to injury. Sam Whitehead moved to defence to cover and showed that he is a natural by working extremely well with Joe Goodchild. Meanwhile, Jack Tyrer dominated up front; scoring two well taken goals to put Kelvedon 3 up. The team continued to work together to keep the league leaders at bay.
Goals scorers: Jack Tyrer 2 and Daniel Whittle 1.
Team: Michael Cook, Joe Goodchild, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billy Catchpole, Michael Challis, Michael Tye, Jack Tyrer and Jack Kearton.
MOM: I can’t pick! It has to be every player within the squad, for their great team commitment and performance – I was so impressed! Kelvedon St. Mary’s 5 V Earl’s Colne 2 The team started slowly, which wasn’t surprising, as it was the first friendly of the season. Earl’s Colne took the lead through a Kelvedon mistake, but within minutes we were level when the ball was adjudged to cross the line; an own goal. Further strikes from both team made it 2-2 score line. However, Kelvedon upped their game for the second half and ran out comfortable winners with a good solid performance. Goals scorers: Sam Whitehead 1, Daniel Whittle 1, Alec Scott 1, Jack Tyrer 1 and an own goal. Team:
Michael Cook, Joe Goodchild, Duncan Bradley, Andrew Swinnerton, George Chappell, Daniel Whittle (Captain), Sam Whitehead, Billie Catchpole, Alec Scott, Michael Challis and Jack Tyrer.
MOM: George Chappell:
for his commanding performance in the middle of the park.
